Introduction
Merci d’avoir porté votre choix sur l’objectif AF Zoom-Nikkor ED 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF.

Introduction
Thank you for purchasing the AF Zoom-Nikkor ED 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF. Before using this lens, please
read these instructions and the notes on safety operations in your camera’s instruction manual. Also, keep
this manual handy for future reference.
Major features
Autofocus operation is possible with Nikon autofocus cameras (except the F3AF, F-601/N6006*
1
,
F-501/N2020*
2
); manual focus possible with all Nikon SLRs.
Closest focus distance of 0.44m (1.4 ft.)*
3
at 200mm and a convenient range of focal lengths from 28mm
wideangle to 200mm medium telephoto are provided.
For more accurate exposure control, subject distance information is transmitted from the lens to the camera
body, providing 3D Matrix Metering and 3D Multi-Sensor Balanced Fill-Flash with appropriate Nikon cameras
and Speedlights.
Moreover, three ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens elements ensure that images are sharp and clear from center to
edges and virtually free of color fringing, regardless of the focal length setting. Also, by utilizing a 7-bladed
diaphragm that produces a nearly circular aperture, out-of-focus images in front of or behind the subject are
rendered as pleasing blurs.

This distance changes slightly depending on a focal length setting. Check the focus indicator in the viewfinder of
cameras so equipped before releasing the shutter.
Setting the aperture
Because this lens does not have an aperture ring, you must set the aperture on the camera body.
Focusing, zooming and depth of field
With Nikon autofocus cameras (except the F3AF, F-601/N6006, F-501/N2020), first turn the zoom ring until the
desired composition is framed in the viewfinder before performing autofocus. If your camera (F5, F100, F80-
Series/N80-Series, F65-Series/N65-Series) has an electronic depth of field preview (stop-down) function, depth
of field can be observed while looking through the camera viewfinder.
Note on manual focus
Be sure to decide the desired composition before performing manual focus in the viewfinder. Focusing is possible
at any focal length, but is easier at longer focal length because the image is larger and the depth of field shallower.
Using the focus limit switch (Fig. 2)
In the autofocus or manual focus mode, depending on the shooting distance, you can use this switch to limit the
range of focus and reduce focusing time.
Zoom lock switch (Fig. 2)
Use the zoom lock switch to lock the zoom ring at 28mm so that the lens does not extend accidentally while
carrying the camera. To lock, set the zoom ring to 28mm, and slide the switch to the “LOCK” position.
Usable cameras and available exposure modes
There may be some restrictions for available exposure modes. Refer to your camera’s instruction manual
for details.
Taking flash pictures with cameras having built-in flash
Check focal length and shooting distance before taking pictures to prevent vignetting since the flash light from the
flash may be obstructed by the lens barrel.
Recommended focusing screens
Various interchangeable focusing screens are available for certain Nikon SLR cameras to suit any type of lens or
picture-taking situation. Those recommended for use with this lens are listed in the table.
◎:Excellent focusing
―:Not available.
Blank box means not applicable. Since type M screen can be used for both macrophotography at a 1:1 magnification ratio and for
photomicrography, it has different applications than other screens.
When using the B/B2/B3, E/E2/E3, and K/K2/K3 focusing screens in cameras other than those listed above, refer to the columns
for the B, E and K screens.
Variable aperture
Zooming the lens from 28mm to 200mm decreases the maximum aperture approx. 1
1
/3 f/stops. However, there is
no need to adjust the aperture, because the camera automatically compensates for this. When taking pictures
using a built-in or separate exposure meter, or taking flash photographs in the TTL or non-TTL auto flash mode,
use the aperture displayed on the camera.
Attaching bayonet hood HB-30
Align the index ( ) on the hood with the lens hood mounting index on the lens, and turn the hood
counterclockwise (as viewed from the camera) until it click stops at the index ( ) (Fig. 1).
To facilitate attachment or removal of the hood, hold it by its base rather than its outer edge. To store the lens
hood, you can attach it in the reverse position.
Lens care
Be careful not to soil or damage the CPU contacts.
Clean the lens surface with a blower brush. To remove dirt and smudges, use a soft, clean cotton cloth or lens
tissue moistened with ethanol (alcohol) or lens cleaner. Wipe in a circular motion from center to outer edge,
taking care not to leave traces or touch other parts.
Never use thinner or benzene to clean the lens as this might damage the lens, result in a fire, or cause health
problems.
When storing the lens in the lens case, attach both front and rear caps.
When the lens will not be used for a long time, store it in a cool, dry place to prevent mold. Also store the lens
away from direct sunlight or chemicals such as camphor or naphthalene.
Do not get water on the lens or drop it in water as this will cause it to rust and malfunction.
Reinforced plastic is used for some parts of the lens. To avoid damage, never leave the lens in an excessively
hot place.

f/3.5-5.6G IF entgegenbringen.
Autofokusbetrieb mit entsprechend ausgerüsteten Nikon-Autofokuskameras (außer F3AF, F-601, F-501);
